The Chateau itself is situated on a rock formation; completely
walled with large towers, it dates back to the XIth century,
and was completely restored in the XIVth century.
The imposing entrance looks out onto the central village
square, the back on to forest and fields.
The Chateau stands above the monolithic church, the largest
in Europe. A passage now closed linked the castle to the church.
Before the castle was built there were already people living
in this area, the first Christians and possibly other people
before them.
Julius Caesar has had an oppidum romanum built , later there
was a cloister in this place.
